摘要 |
PURPOSE:To reduce chemical damage on a surface and propagation loss and to improve efficiency by carrying out an ion exchange treatment in a lithium niobate single crystal substrate after external lithium diffusion treatment in phosphoric acid of 150-280 deg.C. CONSTITUTION:When a fundamental wave P1 is made incident on an end surface of an optical waveguide 6 formed in the external lithium diffused layer 5 of an LiNbO3 substrate by using an ion exchange method, higher harmonics P2, are emitted in the substrate with high efficiency on condition N1=N2, so that this device operates as a light wavelength converter. The thickness D of the optical waveguide 6 is 0.4-0.7mum with basic wavelength lambda1=1.06mum and 0.3-0.6mum with lambda1=0.84mum. The ion exchange treatment is carried out for a specific time (e.g. 9min at 230 deg.C) in phosphoric acid of 150-280 deg.C. |
