The missile has a thermoelectric generator applying an ignition voltage to a circuit in it. The generator is situated at a point where there is a temperature gradient during the acceleration stage of the missile, typically as caused by air friction in flight. It can be accommodated in the nose, and the thermocouples can be arranged in a star pattern in a plane perpendicular to the lengthwise axis of the missile. At the junction between the nose and the main body, they can extend through a cylindrical body of non-heat-conductive material round a heat-absorber. |
