PURPOSE:To attain error correction and to reduce the access time by dividing an information string read out consecutively at read operation into plural parts and adding an error correction code to each information string. CONSTITUTION:A group of minor loop is divided into several parts, each of which is subjected to error correction. When one group consists of m sets of minor loops and they are divided into P, the number of minor loops per block is m/p. Then the time required to read the 1st bloc, to apply the error correction and to transfer the data is n+m/p bits. When a data bit is m1, an error correction code is given by q bits preferably at each m1/p bits; (a) 0 is inserted to a defective loop position according to defective loop information, and then (b), the result is written. In reading the data, the data string shown in a figure (a) is read by the reverse procedure to the write procedure and the error correction is applied when the 1st (m1/p+q) bits are arranged.
