The invention relates to an arcuate absorption silencer for arranging on the intake side of fans producing high pressures and sound levels, its objective being stable and, at the same time, low-noise volume flow control of such a fan. To this end it is provided according to the invention to combine the means for volume flow control with the intake-side absorption silencer of the fan and therefore to integrate them therein. This is achieved according to the invention by the absorption silencer having, adjacent to an arcuate air passage section, a straight air passage section having a decreasing air passage cross section, by a conical, pyramidal or wedge-shaped restrictor being arranged so that its pointed trailing end projects centrically and longitudinally adjustably into the straight air passage section with the decreasing air passage cross section, and by this restrictor, depending on its position, permitting a greater or smaller passage of air between its outer face and the inner face of the straight air passage section surrounding it.
