For the subsequent correction of a single letter by means of a correction ribbon or a correction sheet, the guide strip (17) of a typewriter (10) has one or two holes (20) which are to be brought into congruence with a dot printed on the sheet by the type lever "dot" when the sheet of paper to be corrected is drawn in again, with exact alignment of the edges of the sheet. It is thus achieved that the letter to be corrected is brought precisely to the striking point of the type levers so that the entire letter can be removed by means of the correction sheet or ribbon. <IMAGE>
