In a method of measuring diameter and/or roundness as a function of the length of workpieces by means of a laser measuring device, the workpiece to be measured is put into the laser-beam band between the emitter part and the receiver part of the measuring device. In order to be able to measure the relevant parameters in a simple and quick manner and quickly determine them in very small steps over the entire length of the workpiece, the workpiece to be measured is moved at a predetermined, constant speed through the laser-beam band in a direction at right angles to its plane, the measurement being taken during the pass of the workpiece.
