The use of the sludge occurring in the purification of industrial waste waters and containing inorganic colloid-disperse proportions as detackifying agent for the paint particles dispersed in the waste water from paint-spraying cabins is described. The sludge can be used in the form of a low-viscosity paste, as occurs after the thickener. By the use of the sludge, a high-quality, cost-free detackifying or coagulating agent for the paint particles is available which furthermore provides the advantage of relieving the burden on the hazardous-waste landfill sites.
