PURPOSE:To enable a single thermal head to conduct printing of N dot/mm as well as 2N dot/mm and to reduce a printing time to a great extent in a 2N dot/mm printing, by a method wherein heating portion units each having a plurality of heating portions on a line in the sub-scanning direction are repeatedly provided in the main-scanning direction, and a pair of electrode portions are provided corresponding to the each heating portion. CONSTITUTION:In this construction an electrode portion 1a on one side is offset by a distance 62.5mum from an electrode portion 2a on the other side in the main scanning direction, heating portions 4a and 4b are positioned on the straight line connecting between an electrode portion 1b and the electrode portion 2a, and the centers of the heating portions 4a, 4b and heating portions 4c, 4d is the vertexes of a square of 125mum edges. To conduct printing corresponding to a printing element of 8 dot/mm, the heating portions 4a, 4b, 4c, and 4d... conduct printing first, and similarly carry out printing after being shifted by a distance 2X125mum. In this manner, a printing corresponding to two lines can be performed at a time in the sub-scanning direction, which enables a printing time to be nearly half that in the prior art. |
