PURPOSE:To efficiently perform the inspection of appearance with high accuracy, by providing a first transfer mechanism for sucking pellets positioned every other one in a longitudinal direction to transfer the same and a second transfer mechanism for transferring a plurality of pellets remaining on a tray. CONSTITUTION:A tray having columnar nuclear fuel pellets arranged thereon in the axial direction thereof is located and fixed to the predetermined area of a base stand 11 and revolving roller groups 13, 14 for tumbling the pellets are provided on both sides of the tray 12. Only the pellets positioned every other one in the longitudinal direction among the pellets arranged on the tray 12 are sucked by a first transfer mechanism 15 to be transferred to either one of left and right revolving roller groups 13, 14. A second transfer mechanism 16 parallel-transfers the pellets remaining on the tray 12 to place the same on the other revolving roller group and parallelly moves the pellets on the revolving roller groups 13, 14 to again place the same on the tray 12. By this method, not only the side surface of each pellet but also the end surface thereof can be certainly inspected.
