PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance in high quality, by adding ethylene oxide, etc., to sufficiently purified oleic acid using a tertiary amine or quaternary ammonium salt as a catalyst and adding THF, etc., to the adduct in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Urea and a fatty acid mixture containing oleic acid are dissolved in an organic solvent and the solution is cooled. The precipitated crystal is removed from the solution and the fatty acid mixture existing in the organic solvent solution is partially saponified. The crystal obtained from the solution by recrystallization is decomposed with an acid to obtain sufficiently purified oleic acid. 1mol of the oleic acid is added with 0.9-1.1mol of ethylene oxide or propylene oxide using a tertiary amine or a quaternary ammonium salt as a catalyst. An alpha-olefin oxide or THF is added to the adduct in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst to obtain the titled substanced. EFFECT:The objective product produced by this process has little color and smell and excellent stability. USE:An emulsifier and a dispersing agent. |
