PURPOSE:To increase strength of an electrode plate by using a foam metal whose one side has high porosity and other side has low porosity, impregnating active material, pressing, and spirally winding the foam metal so that the high porosity side is located outside. CONSTITUTION:A foam metal for a nickel positive electrode is manufactured in such a way that foam polyulethane is coated with carbon and nickel-plated, then heated at high temperature to burn out polyulethane and to leave a foam nickel skeleton. In this process, an anode is arranged on one side of the carbon coated foam polyulethane during nickel plating. Since nickel plating proceeds from the surface faced to the anode, nickel plating on this side is thicker (low porosity) than that on the opposite side (high porosity). The foam metal whose one side has high porosity and the other side has low porosity is obtained. The foam metal is spirally wound so that its high porosity side is located outside. |
