[Also in Division B6] Apparatus for guiding strip along a given path includes a pair of rollers, each having a portion which at least partially supports the strip, and a projecting portion, formed by a collar, which guides one edge of the strip. Although applicable to guiding strips of paper, rubber and plastic, Fig. 1 shows a roller table 9 following a rolling mill for hot metal strip, a coiler being situated to the left of the table. The strip is guided by longitudinal edge guides 13 and 14 and driven guide rollers 25 and 26, before coiling. A second roller table 49 for another coiler follows the first coiler. Both longitudinal guides and guide rollers are laterally adjustable. A motor 15 drives spindles 16 to move the guides 13 and 14 together or apart, the spindles (Fig. 2, not shown), having oppositely threaded portions 17 and 18 on which the guides are mounted. The roller 26 is attached by an arm 39 to the guide 13 and is thus adjusted with it. The roller 25 is adjusted by a screwed spindle which is also driven by the motor 15. After all the guides have been set for a given strip, the roller 25 and guide 14 are temporarily moved away from the guide 13 to allow for an enlarged end of the strip to pass the guides. The strip is urged against the guide 13 by the skewed, independently driven rollers 11. Cylinders 23, each actuating a Hall crank-lever, move the guide 14, while a cylinder 42 moves the roll 25. During coiling a kind guide roller, situated above and between the rollers 25 and 26, is lowered to urge the strip against the latter rollers. The collars on the rollers could be replaced by movable collars on a single roller. |
