1) The invention applies to rollingstock which must have a large width capability, especially for cars, obtained by a width double the normal European gauge and able to run on a track with 3 lines of rails by resting on either 2 or 4 conjugate axles with one or 2 pairs of independent load-bearing wheels. 2) This capability is duplicated by a reduced length, which allows the formation of short rakes, and their disconnection, hence being equipped with an automatic coupling making manoeuvres rapid and safe. The rollingstock may be flat with fold-down sides for the almost simultaneous loading and off-loading perpendicular or slightly obliquely to the axis of the track. A central cab C may shelter the passengers in seating areas. 3) Such a mounting is more specially proposed for the purpose of rapidly transporting automobiles in the underground tunnels currently being designed for anglo-continental traffic under the Pas-de-Calais. <IMAGE>
