PURPOSE:To improve operativity by using one key as both a key for interrupting a process being executed at present and a key for indicating movement to another process. CONSTITUTION:When the MODE switch 14 of a keyboard 10 is set to the 2nd mode in which a Japanese word processor function is executed and the power source is turned on, a CPU20 clears the contents of a RAM50 to perform an initializing process and then detect whether the switch 14 is set to the 1st mode or the 2nd mode. When the switch is set to the 2nd mode, a program for a word processor which is stored in a ROM60 is executed thereafter. When the MODE switch 14 is set to MODE1, a processing program generated by a user is executed. When a STOP key 13 is hit, the execution of the user program is interrupted and a return to a MODE switch detection step is made.
