PURPOSE:To secure a device bearing the above caption excellent in controllability, capable of selectively securing running modes of four-wheel drive directly connected to both front and rear wheels and two types of two- wheel drive for FF and FR, in case of a transfer unit to be set up in the rear of a vertical trans-axle type transmission. CONSTITUTION:In case of a transfer unit 18 to be set up in the rear of a transmission 4, a viscous coupling V.C30 is connected to a transmission shaft 5, and a claw clutch 35 of V.C-F directly connected freeing four positions is installed between a housing 32 for the suchlike output shaft 5 and the V.C30. And, the output shaft 5 and the housing 32 are made connectable to a rear drive shaft 19 via each pair of reduction gears 22, 23 and 24, 25, and a claw clutch 40 at these V.C-R directly connected freeing four positions is installed between these gears 23, 25 and the rear drive shaft 19. And, with operation of a select lever 45, these FF, F directly connected 4WD, R directly connected 4WD, and FR positions are all made so as to be securable.
