PURPOSE:To fasten the response speed of an inclination angle and to attain miniaturization with high accuracy, by providing a container having a brake plate received therein in the main body of an inclination angle apparatus and utilizing air pressure in the container to adjust the revolving speed of the brake plate. CONSTITUTION:A light receiving block 3 is revolved by a brake plate 6 at the same time when a main body 1 is inclined by an angle theta1 and always takes constant posture relation to a vertical axis. That is, the center line of a light receiving block 3 generates angular difference by the same angle theta1 as the angle theta1 of inclination with respect to the center line of the light emitting source 2 provided to the main body 1. The quantity of light received by a light receiving element 4a increases in this state and the quantity of light received by a light receiving element 4b becomes small. The difference between the quantities of light of the light receiving elements 4a, 4b becomes large as the angle theta1 of inclination becomes large. The revolving speed of the brake plate 6 due to the inertia generated at the same time when the angle theta1 of inclination is applied to the main body 1 can be adjusted by air resistance generated when air flows out from the gap between a container 7 and the brake plate 6 and the groove 72 provided to the upper part of the container 7.
