Internal combustion engine with intake manifold

A multicylinder V-type I.C. engine has an intake manifold M wherein individual intake passages 17 communicate each cylinder with an air distribution chamber 16 situated at one end of the valley V between the rows of cylinders. Separate bypass passages 18 extend from the distribution chamber 16 and each intake passage 17 at a downstream location to provide a substantially shorter effective passage to the engine cylinders, and a valve 24 in each bypass passage is operated in response to engine speed to open the bypass passages at high engine speeds.
