MOLTEN CARBONATE FUEL CELL

摘要

PURPOSE:To solve problems related to gas leakage of supplied gas and common electrolyte and thereby attain performance improvement and elongation of life by using oxide in molten state at the operating temperature of a cell as sealant between an active material gas distributor and the cell itself. CONSTITUTION:Oxide melting at the operating temperature of a cell is used as gas sealant between an active material gas distributor and the cell itself. For example, glass composed of various oxides is ground with a ball mill to have mean particle size of 10mum and formed as a sheet by the slip casting method by using PVB as binding material. At a time of mounting an external manifold type fuel cell, this sheet is interposed between the cell itself and the active material gas distributor as a sealant 7 and fixed by applying pressure with an air cylinder 13 or the like. This glass sheet has PVB of the binding material evaporated at the temperature rising time at the start of the cell operation and has high viscosity at the cell operating temperature of 650 deg.C through the softening point of 500-600 deg.C and acts as an insulating sealant between the cell itself and the active material gas distributor.
