Human interferon prodn. in Streptomyces cells

Human alpha-2 interferon, for use in prodn. of antibiotics is made by cultivating streptomyces cells contg. the relevant genetic information in a plasmid, e.g. pIJ702, capable of autonomous replication, for 24-72 hours at 25-37 deg.C in a medium contg. a simple carbon source, e.g. glucose or saccharose or complex source, e.g. yeast or meat extract, an organic nitrogen source, e.g. aminoacids or urea, or an inorganic source, e.g. ammonia or ammonium salts and the necessary requirements of salts, co-factors and vitamins. The interferon is extracted by lysis of the bacteria.
