PURPOSE:The titled composition consisting of <= mu unit fine particles wherein both fine metallic oxide and carbon simple substance exist, obtained by reacting the metallic oxide and a carbon compound with steam in a hot gas under a specific condition. CONSTITUTION:Air is fed from a duct 2 of a reaction furnace, H2 from a combustion burner 3 and they are burnt to give a steam-containing hot gas. The temperature of the furnace is made at 600-1,600 deg.C. Then, (A) an oxide of a metal such as Si, Ti, W, B, Al, Zr, etc., having a ratio of mol molecular amount of the steam/g-metallic atom amount in the component A of 0.5-20 is blended with (B) 0.05-0.6kg based on 1m<3> hot gas of a carbon compound (e.g., toluene) in such a way that a ratio of carbon in the component B to metal in the component A(g-atom C/g-atom metal) is 5-50, the blend in a gas or liquid state is fed from a nozzle 4 to the furnace, kept at about 1,050 at position A and formed aerosol is taken out from a duct 6 and cooled to give the titled composition which has <=0.5mu average particle diameter, >=5m<2>/g specific surface area a, >=100m<2>/g carbon corresponding specific surface area b, >=100m<2>/g component A corresponding specific surface area c and correlations wherein b, c>a and alpha shown by the formula is >=0.5. |
