PURPOSE:To facilitate adjustments and maintenance inspection by holding articles temporarily at a temporary storage part to detect its capacity and then discharging it, and eliminating the need for the capacity detection by a packaging machine which cooperates with a scale and making its constitution relative with only packaging. CONSTITUTION:Metering signals from respective metering parts 10 are combinec variously by a combined arithmetic means 22 and values whose total weight is permissible are selected. Articles in a metering hopper 8 which constitute the combination are discharged to a collection chute 2 and collected temporarily at the hold hopper 24, and all the collected articles are packaged 26. Further, a screw rod 30 is provided at the center part of the chute 2 and optical detectors 46a-46e are provided at the lower tip. Then, when there are articles in the hopper 24, the height from the lower end is detected by the detectors 46a-46e according to the height. The outputs of the detectors 46a-46e are read 48 and a setting is processed 23 when the time required by all discharged articles to gather in the hopper 24 is elapsed. This method 23 corrects target weight.
