PURPOSE:To easily control the condition of a change in soil density, etc., and to permit the easy and exact checking of a moisture content by inserting a sensor into the soil and measuring the heat resistance value (inverse number of heat conductivity) of the soil. CONSTITUTION:Samples of various kinds of soil are preliminarily drawn and the heat resistance values for every specified moisture content of these soil samples are measured. A heat resistance value versus moisture ratio characteris tic graph of the various soil samples is formed from the measured values. The sensor is then inserted into the soil on its to measure the heat resistance value of the soil at 100% degree of saturation. The curve conforming to the measured value is selected from the heat resistance value versus moisture ratio characteris tic graph of the various samples. The probe of a heat resistance value measuring instrument is put into the on-site soil of the site to measure the heat resistance value thereof and the moisture ratio corresponding to the measured value is determined.
