NEW MATERIAL:A glycol-based complex including sodium hydroxide and produced by including sodium hydroxide and water in glycol. EXAMPLE:1,6-Hexanediol complex including sodium hydroxide and produced by including sodium hydroxide and water in 1,6-hexanediol. USE:An intermediate for facilitating the production of high-purity sodium hydroxide in a sodium hydroxide industry. PREPARATION:A glycol-based complex including sodium hydroxide can be produced by contacting glycol with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. The formation of the inclusion complex enables selective separation of sodium hydroxide from an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide produced e.g. by the electrolysis of sodium chloride. Since the complex can be easily decomposed simply by adding water thereto, sodium hydroxide can be purified by an energy- saving process without necessitating the energy for distillation, etc.
