The invention relates to platinum(II)tetracoordinate complexes with the formula in which R1 and R2 are carboxylate monoanions, which carry a hydrophobic radical function, or together denote a carboxylate di-anion, which carries a hydrophobic radical function, and R3 and R4 denote ammonia or primary amines or bound with each other a diamino alkane or diamino cycloalkane, in which the amino groups are bound to adjacent carbon atoms. The complex is essentially soluble in methanol or chloroform and essentially insoluble in water. It can be incorporated into phospholipid liposomes. Such platinum complexes encapsulated in phospholipid liposomes can be used for chemotherapy of platinum-complex-sensitive tumours.
