Method for refining mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) comprises (1) mixing aniline with crude product contg. MBT (2) crystallizing MBT (3) filtering and washing with aniline (4) eliminating aniline and (5) drying MBT. Crude product(obtd. by reduce of pressure till atm.) and aniline are mixed at room temp.-184 deg, and mixt. temp. to give 40- 120deg. step (2) and (3) performed at 40-120 deg, esp. 45-80 deg. Liq. org. phase of refining medium is opt. recirculated.
