PURPOSE:To reduce an overhead by adopting a constitution that a line exchange frame is interrupted onto a transmission line during packet exchange so as to reduce jitter and to attain the communication for a data requiring tight instantanesity and using the line exchange in common as to a voice data. CONSTITUTION:A master node in a data communication using a ring from transmission line, at the time of receiving a request of line exchange from a slave node, sends a packet including a variable length frame for line exchange periodically at the prescribed point of time and eliminates the packet after the circulation of the ring. When a packet sent already from the slave node exists onto an incoming transmission line 10 at the point of time of the sending start of a line exchange frame, the master node saves a preceding packet part into a buffer memory 11 and sends the saved packet part in the buffer memory 11 onto the incoming transmission line 10 after the end of transmission of the line exchange frame. In sending the line exchange frame, a line exchange module 8 of the master station writes a pattern from a start delimiter 12 to an end delimiter 16 in a variable shift register circuit 7 and starts the transmission of a line mode data to a switching circuit 5 and a coding circuit 6, and the circuit 7.
