PURPOSE:To obtain a titled medium having good wear resistance at a low temp. and excellent durability at the lower temp. by providing a magnetic layer contg. such polyoxy ethylene ester having a prescribed compsn. CONSTITUTION:The polyoxy ethylene ester expressed by the formula (where R1, R2: an alkyl group of 1-20C, n: 1-20 integer) is incorporated into the magnetic layer. The wear resistance particularly at the low temp. is thereby improved. The polyoxy ethylene ester expressed by the formula exhibits an excellent lubricating effect particularly at the low temp. to decrease the coefft. of friction on the surface of the magnetic layer and to improve the wear resistance particularly at the low temp. when incorporated into the magnetic layer. The incorporation of the polyoxy ethylene ester into the magnetic layer is executed by kneading the ester with magnetic powder and binder resin to prepare a magnetic coating compd., coating the compd. on a substrate and drying the coating to form the magnetic layer.
