Apparatus for rapidly measuring blood viscosity including a hollow column (12) of narrow bore in fluid communication with a chamber (14) containing a porous bed (16) and means for measuring blood flow rate (54, 56, 60, 62) within the column (12). The specific permeability of the bed (16) and the pressure gradient are selected so that in combination they result in an equivalent average wall shear stress of about 1 dyn/cm<2> or less. |
