PURPOSE:To obtain an adsorbing element reduced in pressure loss at the time of the passage of air and a liquid and excellent in shape holdability, by forming a polyacrylonitrile type activated carbon fiber having specific thickness and specific number of twist into a fabric with coating coefficient of 2.5-12.0. CONSTITUTION:A fabric with coating coefficient of 2.5-12.0 is constituted of a polyacrylonitrile type activated carbon fiber with a yarn number count of 3.0-30 and a number of twist of 70-140/m. The coating coefficient is shown by a product of (reciprocal of a yarn number count) and (the sum of the number of warp yarns/inch and that of weft yarns/inch in the fabric). The acrylonitrile type activated carbon fiber is obtained by a method wherein a polymer or copolymer containing at least 60% or more of acrylonitrile is oxidized and subsequently activated. The obtained fabric adsorbing element is used in a laminated, wound or bent form and excellent in adsorbing capacity and shape holdability, reduced in pressure loss and generates a reduced amount of a fine powder in use.
