A device for the manufacture of iron and metal alloys by adding volatile and/or easily oxidizable elements such as ferro-silicon manganese to a charge. The device comprises a self-supporting ladle with metallic casing, or other container, with at least one single or multiphase electromagnetic stirrer partially or totally enclosing the ladle. The moving field induced by the stirrers creates a motion (A) in the charge causing the alloying elements to be brought down into and mixed with the charge. The stirrers are designed for frequencies between 1 - 200 Hz and preferably 2 - 50 Hz. |
