A device for installation in a motor vehicle for recording distances traveled on business or non-business journeys comprises an input (22) from the vehicle indicative of the distance traveled by the vehicle and manually operable key (3,4) for inputting into the device the purpose of the journey. The distance traveled and the purpose can be recorded for later printing on a paper supply (22) contained within the device. A clock (l2) also records the time and date of the journey. Gas purchases can be recorded by key (l7). A decimal keyboard (5) and further key (l4) can be used to require the introduction of an identification code before the device can be operated.
