PURPOSE:To equalize the intensity of illumination of an original read part, and to improve the quality of a formed image, by controlling the output power of a high frequency generator in accordance with a distance in the scanning direction of a light source. CONSTITUTION:As a light source goes away from a high frequency generator, a high frequency power energy irradiated to the light source drops, but a count number of a pulse of an encoder increases, therefore, this device is constituted so that the high frequency generator generates its corresponding power. That is to say, the output of a high frequency generator 101a is controlled by controlling each time of output timings alpha1-alpha3 of a gate pulse, in accordance with a count pulse by an encoder pulse generating circuit 402, and the light emission quantity of a light source 201 is kept constant substantially. In such a way, the intensity of illumination of an original read part which is scanned by the light source goes to uniform substantially without being influenced by a distance difference in the scanning direction, and the quality of a formed image is improved.
