1289738 Electrodialyzers FILMFABRIK WOLFEN VEB 30 Jan 1970 4656/70 Heading C7B An electrodialysis cell for desalination comprises a series of integral alternating anion- and cation-exchange units, each including a membrane surrounded by a frame and manufactured from a composition of an ion-exchange resin and an inert support material, the membrane being provided with a plurality of protuberances the ends of which, together with the frame surface, in contact with an adjacent unit to separate the membrane active surface from that unit, are provided with an insulating coating. The unit composition is preferably 15-60% inert thermoplastic binder and 85-40% ion-exchange powder with inert fabric embedded therein. The unit may be prepared by embossing a calendered film of the composition. The protuberances may be staggered to the direction of solution flow across the membrane, and arranged in greater density in the boundary areas. Inlet, outlet and overflow channels exist in the frame. |
