Copper base rail which can be cooled by water for the one-sided welding with powder at the bottom of thick plates has a longitudinal supply groove for welding powder whilst the base rail consists of segments provided with cooling agent channels and which arranged movably in rows without slots in planes perpendicular to the surface of the plates to be welded.
