PURPOSE:To obtain an optical recording medium having high reflectance, favorable contrast, excellent optical stability and excellent stability to reproducing light, by using a specified cyanine coloring matter in a recording layer. CONSTITUTION:A recording layer comprising a cyanine coloring matter having a phosphate residue as a paired ion is provided on a base of an optical recording medium for performing recording and reproduction through changes of state effected by a laser beam. The phosphate residue is a residue of a phosphate of an element of Group VI, preferably, a molybdenum phosphate residue, a tungsten phosphate residue, a residue of a mixed phosphate of molybdenum and tungsten, or the like. The cyanine coloring matter may be a compound of formula (I), wherein A is phosphate residue, each of B and D is a residue selected from an indole ring residue, a thiazole ring residue, an oxazole ring residue, a selenazole ring residue, an imidazole ring residue and a pyridine ring residue, and C is a linking group for forming a carbocyanine. The recording layer can be easily provided by a thin film forming method such as a doctor blade method, a casting method, a spinner method and a dipping method. |
