PURPOSE:To increase the volume of a downward discharge air flow to improve the space heating effect of the air conditioner at space heating start up and to increase the amount of a upward discharge air flow when the room temperature increases to obtain a comfortable space heating feeling by individually controlling the air flow volume of a upward discharge fan motor and that of a downward discharge fan motor. CONSTITUTION:When a space heating operation is started, the room temperature is detected by a thermistor 8, and inputted to an A/D input terminal of a microcomputer (LSI) 9. Then, the room temperature is compared with a set temperature within the LSI 9. When the room temperature is lower than the set temperature, a fan speed changeover relay 10 is turned OFF, a upward discharge fan motor 6 is changed over to a tap on a low fan speed side, a downward discharge fan motor 7 to a fan speed high side, the upward discharge air flow amount is decreased, the downward discharge air flow amount is increased, and hot air is blown off through the downward outlet port in a larger amount. When the space heating operation is continued, and the thermistor detects that the room temperature exceeds the set temperature and a signal is inputted to the LSI, the LSI outputs an ON signal to the fan speed changeover relay, and the tap is changed over to increase the upward discharge air flow volume and to decrease the downward discharge air flow volume.
