PURPOSE:To discriminate the residence data from the address data for accurate allocation of them by discriminating these two data supplied by an input means through a discriminating means and delivering them in the specific format through an output means. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 2 starts its processing and the head address of the present line of a document memory 3 to be processed is set to a register X. The memory 3 delivers the head data to a deciding part 4 for discrimination whether the head data is equal to the numeric characters or marks. When the numeric characters are confirmed, the CPU 2 performs the postal code number processing. While the data shown by the register X is retrieved to a place name data base 9 via a retrieving part 8 if no numerical character nor mark are confirmed. When no place name data is confirmed, the address storing processing is selected and executed. While the place name data is stored if this data is confirmed. If it is difficult to discriminate the address from the residence, they are discriminated from each other according to the length of the data stored separately.
