The drawing part (2) of an NC plotter (2, 3) is arranged above a base plate (16). Information carriers (42, 43) to be marked are fitted onto the base plate (16) and are thus placed in a very particular spatial relation to the drawing part (2). The marking characters are plotted by means of an ink writing implement (37). To achieve good durability of the marking, it can be coated with a protective varnish. Using the device and the method, a readily durable marking can be applied conveniently. <IMAGE>
