PURPOSE:To attain the extra-high density recording and the highly efficient reproducing by magnetically recording and reproducing data on a high coercive force magnetic thin film strip on a recording track in the width direction. CONSTITUTION:A discoid magnetic recording medium 5 is provided with the high coercive force magnetic thin film strip 6 on a nonmagnetic base 4, and the high coercive force magnetic thin film strip 7 contacting the strip 6 at one side between adjacent strips 6 by interposing a nonmagnetic guard band 8, whereby a recording track is constituted. Magetization is given in the width direction of the strip 6 to execute recording. Then flux of a magnetic pole piece 11 when data is recorded on the medium 5 through the use of a magnetic recording and reproducing head 14 converges at a position facing a magnetic pole piece 10 in the strip 7. The convergence magnetic flux goes toward a magnetic pole piece 10 through the strip 6. Since the width of the magnetic pole piece 10 is narrow and its flux passes through a film having high magnetic permeability, the flux sharply convergences, thereby executing recording at a high density. |
