PURPOSE:To obtain such a cleaning device that its power consumption is small and a developer is hard to stick on the surface of a blade by allowing a cleaning blade to contact and leave the surface of a photosensitive body through a motor and a cam. CONSTITUTION:The flexible blade 14 for cleaning is fixed on a shaft 43 through a holding member 42 and rotates around the shaft 43 as a fulcrum as shown by an arrow (a) to contact and leave the surface of the photosensitive drum 10 freely. The cam 57 rotates by the rotation of the DC motor 51 to move up and down the lever 47 about the fulcrum and rotate a stud 45 upward and downward, so that the blade 41 contacts and leaves the surface of the photosensitive drum 10 through the shaft 43. The blase 41 operates smoothly because of the shape of the cam 57 and toner is not scattered.
