PURPOSE:To simplify the preparation for a measurement by placing a spacer, etc., which contact the surface of a pilose sheet, without setting an ultrasonic wave path to a prescribed height. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic wave path 5 is formed by a weight 6, a supporting plate 1, an opposed plate 2, a spacer, and a pilose sheet 7. An ultrasonic wave incident means 11 consisting of an ultrasonic wave generator 8, a transmitter 9 and a horn 10 is provided on the opening part of the inlet side of the path 5. Also, the sheet 7 is supported by the plate 1, for instance, by a double side tape so that the surface having a fluff turns to the plate 2 side. Thereafter, when the generator 8 is driven, an ultrasonic wave is radiated from the transmitter 9, also focused by the horn 10 and led into the path 5, and propagated in the direction as indicated with an arrow. In the process of this propagation, the ultrasonic wave is attenuated in accordance with a fluff state of the sheet 7. The longer the fluff length is, and also the higher the density of the fluff is, the larger this attenuation is. Accordingly, when a level of the ultrasonic wave which has come out of the path 5 is received 12 and detected by a receiver 13, the fluff state can be known with regard to the sheet 7.
