PURPOSE:To properly emphasize in advance a signal of small amplitude which may be lost in reproduction at the time of recording by automatically varying the output of an emphasis circuit by using a voltage varying in accordance with the field strength. CONSTITUTION:When the filed strength is weak, the amount of attenuation of the limiter 3 output by an attenuator 7 is made large by an AGC detector 6, and when the field strength is strong, the said amount of attenuation is made small likewise. Thus, the emphasis-magnitude for a small-amplitude signal is linearly varies up to a standard value. Accordingly, the luminance signal inputted to an input terminal 1 is outputted from both an equalizer 4 and the attenuator 7, and the outputs are made synchronous and added up with each other to be outputted from an output terminal 5 as a picture signal of a high quality.
