PURPOSE:To retrieve rapidly an objective position by providing a track number error converter with an accelerating kick pulse width calculating device and an optical head variable number kicking device. CONSTITUTION:The track number error converter 11 converts an error time into the number of error tracks and the accelerating kick pulse width calculating device 12 calculates accelerating kick pulse width corresponding to the number of error tracks. The optical head variable kicking device 13 accelerates an optical head in accordance with the accelerating kick pulse width, then decelerates the optical head to stop the deceleration kick when the number of moved tracks coincides with the number of error tracks as the result of counting. Namely, the device 13 accelerates the optical head by the calculated accelerating kick pulse width while counting up the number of track cross signals, then counts the track cross signals while decelerating the optical head to stop the deceleration kick when the number of moved tracks coincides with the number of error tracks as the result of comparison.
