1296890 Reconstituted tobacco compositions AMF INC 9 July 1970 [24 July 1969] 33427/70 Heading A2C A tobacco composition comprises finely divided tobacco and an ethylhydroxyethyl cellulose having an ethoxyl degree of substitution of 1.2 to 1.6 and a hydroxyethyl molar substitution of 0.5 to 1.2. Preferably the ethylhydroxyethyl cellulose comprises 3 to 15%, or 2 to 10% where 2 to 10% of calcium or magnesium carbonate is also included, by weight of the total composition. The ingredients are formed into a slurry with a solvent, preferably water, mixed and cast into a sheet at a temperature below the gellation temperature of the ethylhydroxyethyl cellulose and then dried e.g. at 95-100‹C. Additional ingredients used in the examples are refined sulphite pulp, guar gum and, as a cross-linking agent, glyoxal. |
