A process is used for manufacturing friction linings and friction linings are thus produced from usual asbestos-free mixtures of inorganic and possibly organic fibres, of binders and additives. A similar process is used to that for making paper, comprising the suspension of elements of the friction composition in water, the removal of water from them in a strainer drying of the friction lining after water removal and its further processing according to a usual hot-pressing process and if necessary by tempering and machining. The process is characterized by the fact that the mass and binder or latex are set by opposite loading before the addition of the latter preferably by transferring the load of the mass and by the fact that the density of the mass is reduced to 1 to 2% before it is compressed in the molding strainer.
