In the case of an apparatus for pressing a cheese composition for producing hard or similar cheese slices, the cheese composition which has been poured into the cheese moulds (1) is pressed by stacking the cheese moulds one on top of the other, the upper cheese moulds being placed directly onto the cheese composition of the cheese moulds below them and in this way exerting pressure on the cheese composition. A stacking chute (10) is advantageously provided for stacking, cheese moulds being continuously fed to and removed from the said chute (10). A preferred cheese mould for stack-pressing has a pressing stamp (45) which projects downwards on the floor (41) of the mould, the pressing surface (46) of which stamp (45) is slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the cheese mould and therefore the pressing stamp of the upper cheese mould can be inserted to press the cheese composition which has been poured into it. <IMAGE>
