PURPOSE:To perform the reading of a color original by providing three systems of large number of optical fibers provided in linear shape and color filters corresponding to each of light receiving elements respectively through a rotary slit on the mid-way of an optical path from a white light source to three lengthy light receiving elements. CONSTITUTION:Optical fiber groups 241-243 are arranged near the surface of an original 34 corresponding to a pair of color filters and a pair of light receiving elements 28 and 25, 29 and 26, and 30 and 27 respectively in the right angle direction of the moving direction, that is, a main scanning direction of the original. When a light chopper 21 is rotated and a projecting part 32 arrives at the facing position of a photocoupler 33, light emitted from a lamp 20 is made incident on optical fibers 241a-243a in the optical fiber group from a slit 2, and then irradiates th original 34. Reflected rays of light transmit filters 28-30 of red, green, and blue and are made incident on the lengthy photodetectors 25-27. And they are photoelectric-converted and are stored at a memory. Such operation is repeated, and three lines of the original 34 are read as various values of the reflected light in each color of the red, the green, and the blue. Thus the reading of the original can be performed.
