In a pulverizing bowl mill(10), partic. for coal, several vanes(36) are supported on a rotatable grinding table(14) of the mill for corotation. A converging/diverging orifice(38) is mounted within the mill above the table, to direct air flow towards the mill centre. The vanes function to reverse the flow direction of air about the table, either with or against its rotation. This airflow reversal causes large pulverized particles to separate out onto the table, in conjunction with the effect of the orifice.
