PURPOSE:To improve magnetization efficiency by heating a magnetized film by a heating roller to uniformly magnetize the magnetized film. CONSTITUTION:A thermal head 34 provided with many heating elements 32 on a base plate 31 is disposed to a magnetic latent image forming part 24 in such a state in which the heating elements 32 are held in sliding contact with the magnetized film 14. A magnetic field is formed by a magnetic field forming device for forming the latent image. The film 14 which is preliminarily initialized is, therefore, subjected to local inverse magnetization when the driving current pulses from a driving circuit 36 are selectively supplied to the heating elements 32. The magnetic latent image is formed by the aggregation of such inversely magnetized parts. The residual magnetization approximate to the satd. residual magnetization is obtd. with the relatively weak external magnetic field as compared to the case of making magnetization only by the external magnetic field and therefore, the uniform magnetization of the magnetized film for the purpose of initialization is efficiently obtd.
