OPTICAL TRANSMISSION FIBER USING PLASTIC CLAD

PURPOSE:To prevent a projection of the tip of an element wire in a connector part by forming a clad protecting layer which is composed of a hard plastic material and is sticked strongly to the clad at an outer circumference of the clad composed of a soft material. CONSTITUTION:In the optical transmission fiber using the plastic clad and having a core composed of a quartz glass or an optical glass, the clad 3 is composed of the plastic material having <=60 hardness value measured by the method of the spring type hardness test A JIS K-6301. The protective layer 4 composed of the plastic material having a strong bond to the clad and >60 the measured value of hardness is provided on the circumference of the clad. The core is composed of the quartz glass and the optical glass having a low refractive index. The diameter of the core is preferably about 50-500mum. The clad is preferably composed of the silicone resin having a lower refractive index than that of the core, such as a dimethylpolysiloxane and a poly fluoroalkylmethylpolysiloxane.
